About the Speaker

Dr. Hasmik C. Kirakosyan is an Iranologist and a philological doctor at the Yerevan Matenadaran – Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, Institute of Oriental Studies of Armenia. Since 2025, she has been serving as Chair of the Medical and Natural Science Texts Study Group at the Matenadaran and head of the project “Linguistic Knowledge: Multilingualism or Multiglossia? A Sociolinguistic Analysis of Armenian Medical and Pharmacological Manuscripts (16th–18th Centuries)” funded by the Armenian government. Her research focuses on Armenian medieval medical manuscripts, particularly their Persian component and the formation of Iranian loanwords and phrases in Armenian script. She is the author of the monograph “The Manuscripts of Medicine and the Greco-Persian Glosses of the Matenadaran” (2020) and several scholarly articles. She is also the editor of the collective volume Armenians in the Persianate World, published in Yerevan in September 2025.
