Translation Certificate

translationThe Certificate in Translation in African, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Literatures consists of 18 credits, completed with a grade of B or better in each course. The requirements of the Translation Certificate Program are:

1. Two (2) courses beyond the intermediate level in any of the languages offered through AMESALL or the equivalent level as determined by placement testing;

2. 013:203 Language in Society in Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia;

3. 013:304 Introduction to Translation;

4. 013:403 Translation Practicum I or equivalent

                        403a: Arabic

                        403b: Hindi

                        403c: Swahili

                        403d: Persian

                        321: Independent Language Practicum

5. 013:404 Translation Practicum II or equivalent

                        404a: Arabic

                        404b: Hindi

                        404c: Swahili

                        404d: Persian

                        321: Independent Language Practicum

Credits earned in any of the above courses can also be used to fulfill the requirements of the Minor or the Major in African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian Languages and Literatures. 013:203 Language in Society is regularly offered in the Fall semester, and 013:304 Introduction to Translation is regularly offered in the Spring semester. The language practica are offered according to student interest. If you are interested in pursuing the Translation Certificate, but a practicum is not being offered in the language of your choice, please contact one of our full-time faculty members about taking an independent study (013:321) as a practicum to fulfill the Translation Certificate requirements.
